although sending a rocket all the way to the moon is a gargantuan task, india is no newcomer to space travel... india has lauched many satellites into orbit and not just her own satellites... some were for much more developed countries like germany and japan... so i guess some of it will be 'routine' (if there is such a thing in rocket science) but on a much larger scale...
i say sure india can do it! indians the world over are known for their intellectual prowess... and so the brain power needed is available in excess... nothing can stop india if this is what the indians want to do! at least india wont be relying on captured german scientists to do the hard work :-)
i think india is poised and ready to place herself firmly on the map as a world power! Jai Hind!

To be precise, Yes chandrayaan-I will be successfull. more than 50 renowed scientists and more than 150 efficient research students and engineering students are seriously involved in making the mission successfull and i find no reason why we should fail in this mission. Our intellectuals will not let us down and as a part of our responsibility let us give the moral support and hope the good.

There will be few failures to start with.. then comes the patience, fundings and motivation part to get it right. Given all three factors, we can eventually succeed but it largely depends on the govt in 2012 There was a strong motivation for americans to do it (moon race with USSR) but this time, something else has to keep it on track.

Why shouldn't it be, they have 1/8th of this planet's population. They should have 1/8th of the planets smartest people and that is a whole lot more than our so called "super powers". Why should anyone doubt their ability? Thanks for the question, it's a good one.

Apart from digging a gigantic hole into their GNP there's nothing to gain by going there. USA proved that in the sixties.
