It is very easy, and you can get the instructions on the web. (I will look for a link in a minute), but, also, most switches have instructions on the back of the package.
Also, when you go to the hardware store, you should be able to get help from the sales people there.
I'll return with a link...

The wiring instructions are on the package (usually).
If the lights are not fluorescent then you can change the existing switch.
1- First, turn the light on.
2- Go to your circuit breaker (or fuse) panel and turn off the breaker that makes the light go off. (Unscrew & remove the fuse).
3- Now that the power is off, remove the switch plate and then the switch. There should be only 2 wires going to the old switch.
4- You disconnect the old switch and reconnect the new one the same way.
5- Mount the new switch in the box and the put the plate back.
(If the new one has a large round knob you will have to pull it off before you can put the plate over it). Put the knob back on after the plate is on).
6- Other types are slider type, toggles (like the regular switch) and lighted.
Good Luck !

1. Instructions are on the package
2. Make sure you buy the correct pole (single or double)
3. Turn the power off at the circuit breaker box. It takes 2 people to do this: One to turn breakers off and on, One to stand in the room and yell when the light goes off.
4. If the switch controls a wall outlet, you cannot use that outlet for appliances, clocks, radios, fluorescent fixtures, etc.
5. Look at the different types of dimmer controls before buying.
I think you would want one that back lights even if the light is off so you or the kids don't have to grope for the switch.

It's very easy. Instructions are in the package.
Be sure to get the correct switch....single pole or double pole.
If there is only one switch that works the fixture, you need single pole. If there is MORE than one switch that will turn it on/off, you'll need double pole. Otherwise, the dimmer goes in just like the regular one.
DONT FORGET to turn the power off at the breaker box!!!

Home Depot can help you with installing a dimmer switch. And usually the product comes with the guide on how to do it. But the cardinal rule is that you turn off your electricity to your house before doing it to avoid the risk of being shock and electrocuted.

It's easy, I did it myself when I was 10.
First shut off the power, then replace wires into same holes that the old switch has.

It is very very easy. All you have is three wires. Match up the colors tape and cap them. It's that simple. I've done my own and even installed a porch light. Good Luck!

I wouldn't. Dimmer switches can hum, they don't last forever, they have a limit as to what size bulb you can use, they can cause radio/TV interference. Better to have a centre light and a table/standard lamp so they can choose which to use.
