Starting the new term at university I am going to be president of my sports club. I didn't run for the position in fact i ran for secretary but the person elected president is not returning to Uni next year. It isn't a very large club but term is about 4 weeks away and already people are phoning and emailing me about things, particulary the outgoing president. I'm finding it difficult to get started so early and am trying to tell them to wait until term starts.

I would really appreciate anyone's thoughts on how to handle things or what would make the year manageable from this position.

listen to what other people suggest, don't just rush into things, and don't get involved in petty disputes. If you don't know the answer for something, tell them straight, but then go and find the answer yourself if that's possible.

I can see how this is stressful, as first you get the suprise of becoming president without being elected and straight away you're having to deal with the responsibilites.

And yes, to those who have made other comments, did you not read the question?!

Just listen to your people and handle things competently, and you will do fine. Yes, it will require some time and effort on your part, but afterwards you will be able to honestly say you did your bit for the club. And if you really dislike it, you don't have to run again. If they want to insist, you can just say its someone else's turn.

Edit - Christ, can't the rest of you people read?
