My husband has basically taught my daughters two dogs to bark.
When they bark at the mailman, he carries on 'good girls'. At first I thought he is trying to ruin them for my daughter, but that would hurt him because they will end up living with us when she leaves.
It is the only trick the dogs know and they bark at everything because it pleases their daddy. What is the point in wanting a dog to bark alot? They are indoor dogs, in a suburb.

they sleep thru the night. when they are not in bed they even bark at us, they wag their tails the whole time. Pom and Pek a poo. Kindof really missing the doberman.

He is stupid. or IS HE? Maybe it is for protection. Maybe..
he is scared and the dogs barking will give him a sense of security,...who knows.

It's not good to have them barking at everything, how are you supposed to know if the threat is real or not? It's just like the boy who cried wolf...If the dog barks like 10 times at night and on the 10th time thats when the killer sneeks in, how are you supposed to know? I think it's much better to teach them not to bark at everyday things in thier surroundings, cause then when they do bark at that odd bump in the night then you know you should go check it out and make sure everythings ok.

Unless you are a pro guard dog trainer its not good to teach dogs to bark they can be scary to others or even start biting. Your husband is an idiot that will learn only when a child has been mauled

Oh hey, your husband and mine should hang out. Mine has trained ours to lick everyone to death. He thinks it is great and actually gets down on the floor and lets them lick him all over his face. So, naturally, when other people come over, the dogs can't figure out why our guests are telling them to stay down. Perhaps we can get them all in a room together and your dogs can bark at my husband while my dogs lick your husband's face?

If you want a watch dog who will bark to alert you whenever a stranger comes on the property, then you praise them when they bark and praise them when they quiet on command.

it is the piont of letting the dog owner know when someone is on your property. someday you will be greatful he did this. what if your house was being burlarized? would you want your dog to alarm you or just wag her tail and let tha burglar go on about his business?
