Usually someone throws the 1st baseman a ball (for the next inning to throw grounders to the infielders, while the pitcher is getting his warm-up pitches in. Someone also gives a ball to the Centerfielder, to warm up with when he goes back to the field (same as infielders).

It's a baseball. It's thrown to the first baseman after every innning because he will need it for warmups when they take the field again.
