I wasn't asked to take a cut, I just got a 5% raise, biggest in a while.

My investments have been growing for 15 of the last 18 quarters.

The national unemployment is 4.6%. We are not in an inflationary cycle.

Foreign trade is down, and the dollar is down compared to the other major currencies, but somehow our dollar is going further. Our imports are way too high, but Walmart and the other major retailers are making a huge profit off it so tax dollars are helping to fill the government's coffers.

The only paycuts I've heard of have been in industries that need to consolidate and are being torn apart by the hyper-inflated salaries imposed by labor unions, such as auto manufacturing and the airlines. The airlines are not competetive because there are too many seats available for too few fliers. The auto industry because it has always failed to forsee trends and winds up following them about a decade too late. Plus they haven't made a real profit since they flooded dealers lots with cars.

I've been totally amazed at the continued announcements that the economy is flourishing. In my neighborhood the cost of housing has finally topped out on several people. They now live in their cars. There is no alternative. These are not poor people, they're working class. The pay simply won't cover and there's no where else that's better. They still have their jobs and continue life as before. Their apartment is now car-sized.

I also know several middle-aged men who are dying due to lack of health care. Working class people usually don't have benefits anymore. Doctors want cash up front. Even treatable illness' are proving fatal. There are no services for men.

I'd love an explanation of this good economy.

Republicans will not reply to any real issue. They want to talk about gays, Lesbians and flag burning. At least that Idiot Arnold has raised the minimum wage in California to $6.75. That makes six States with higher than the Federal $5.15. Ohio has it on the November ballot.
Read the Wall-Mart story about Minimum wage and how they could take 2 percent less profit and pay more.
BTW, I know many in LA that have not had a raise in 4 years.
Republicans are all the same, they claim they work and in don't work at all, they also think you should work for nothing.
BTW, Under Clinton we has a surplus all eight years, Clinton even paid on the debt twice. Clinton was a conservative. We now have a projected $9 trillion in debt over ten years under Republicans. We have a $38 billion trade deficit under Republicans. More jobs lost to other countries than any time in History under Republicans. That in addition to the Iraq war will cost tax payers $2 trillion over five years. Working class tax payers are in very deep crap. If you are a younger tax payer you will pay for the Republicans mistakes for 30 years.
There are the brain dead who think the economy is fine, they live in there own small dream world. Not the real world. Daddy paid for college and Daddy gave them a high paying do nothing job, much like the Deufuss Bush.

Okay, this is a really poorly worded question.

For one, I actually got a merit raise this year, so that's not a cut for me.

For two, if the economy got to the point where I thought I could land a job that more closely resembles my dream career, I would probably go for it even if it paid less (effectively taking a pay cut). Money isn't the only thing that matters about a job!

Yea! its good when it is compared to the Depression.
The economy is not good. I remember back 1993 someone in governnment fell in love with the Federal reserve(big banks). And the banks began to freely give out credit cards to anyone who had a job. (their opportunity to cash in on interest payments).
This move on the public had set the stage for a major meltdown. Everyone was buying anything that would make them materially happy. the people spent, spent,Gambled and wasted the resource that the card bestowed in the ever increasing limits as well as interest rates they also spewed out freely. Well when the people maxed out every card That was the beginning of a decline in the purchase in durable goods. Demand for these kind of items went down. Like I said before all were maxxed out and could no longer purchase anything. So now its Work.Work just to pay the outragious interest rates. Oh! the money the big banks are raking in. So came to the conclusion that the truth above was the intentions of the banks was to break the backs of the middle class. Of course they are willing to take paycuts, aside the 2 other pt jobs one needs to get a third just to break even. I got rid of all of my cards.

But I see with eye's wide open that services, taxes, gas and food ,cigs beer are increasing. under the false impression of a gas shortage. Wisconsin is well known as being the tax me state. each year costs for all services, car tags, fishing licenses, all costs of goverment in general and lets not leave out Local,State, federalTaxes. in Breaking the backs of the middleclass and those who are in the lower brackets. In doing so no more middle class as they were all qualified to file Bankruptcy. But not any more, you most likely have heard that congress favored the banks as alot of people were filing. (I rant) My tolorence has been compremised. This is not the United States that I have grown up to love. The Federal Government no longer cares to address domestic issues, but rather fight wars that can not be won and wasting our money and our sons and daughters are dead. What else must we sacrifice? I sure would like to find like minded people to kick some butt and raise he!!. But they want that to happen as well. Some 20 or so very large concentration camps are awaiting those who do not comply and would rather have a revolt. Welcome to the New World Order.

The economy is shifting and because of the fascination with Globalization (Dem & Rep) many low & mid skilled Americans are losing their jobs to someone in some devolping country that will work for a fraction of the cost. Fortunately, since shifts in business models are nothing new – we take it in stride and adapt – that’s why the economy is strong.

Somehow I don’t think you really care about the answer, tough…I just think you were proud of thinking up “Republicrumb” all by yourself…

The jobs began going overseas 30 years ago, so we could compete in the world market. During the clinton admin. it accelerated and the pay cuts you are referring to is allowing people to keep their jobs rather than those jobs going off shore. This administration was handed a country in recession. (it's documented) and if pay cuts will keep the jobs then we have to do what we have to do. If you want to stop this, then you need to begin paying for American wages. Its the consumers that are driving this, nothing else. Enjoy your next trip to walmart.

a part of the economy is good. Manufacturing sector is in bad shape. Technology sector is facing problems from off-shoring. Companies are trying to cut costs to be more competitive. The first victim is the HR cost, usually.

With China-US trade gap at all time high of $10 billion a month, there is a fear that inflation is coming in. And there seems little political initiative to sustain dwindling sectors.

People have received pay cuts and lay offs since the beginning of industrialization. It depends on the company you work for.
I just got a good raise and more benefits.

I'm not a Republican, but I know what you mean. My employer increases my deductions everytime I bring in a new account!

It's getting too expensive to work! Everytime I bring in more sales he raises the amount of health insurance deducts.. no one monitors this and he nor the agent will show me on paper the full amount of the premiums.

And of course, California Labor Dept. is about as useful as a screendoor on a submarine.
