Gov. Richards helped the people of the state of Texas. She appointed more women and minorities to governmental positions. She instituted the state lottery system which helps to fund public schools. Also, Gov. Richards left the state with a $2 billion budget surplus when she left office. Governor Richards will be missed.

We lost a very strong and smart woman. She was a very good role model for women and anyone who thought they couldnt do something. She never thought there was anything you couldnt do. No matter your political differences you cant deny she was a larger than life woman who did amazing things for every life she touched. Rest in Peace Ann.. your legacy will live on forever. :(

WEll, I was a Texan for most of my life...She was my governor for one term. Quite frankly, I was pretty young and didn't pay attention to politics at the time. She was feisty and sort of a Texas icon, I suppose. When I heard that she was 73 when she died, I was a bit surprised, I thought she was older than that...Oh well, to summarize, I really don't have much of political opinion with regards to her. I do, however mourn a fellow Texan.

Outside of Texas she may be best known for her quote " George W Bush was born with a silver shoe in his mouth"-- ironically lost the election to Bush in spite of the polls reflecting a 74% approval rating for her

She was a great lady who really stood up for advancement of women and was really for the people. She was very down to earth though she had many personal problems later on with alcoholism. She also smoked like a chimney. But overall, she was very cool and anyone would have loved to be around her.

Feisty lady for sure.
I liked her quote about Ginger Rogers doing the same thing Fred Astaire did, only backwards with heels on.
And LeoGirl, show some class or tact will ya?. Didn't your parents ever teach you that if you don't have anything good to say don't say anything?

As a Texas Republican, I will miss her. She brought credit to herself and to the Office of the Governor, and she was a worthy opponent to then-candidate George W. Bush, who defeated her in her campaign for reelection.
She embodied all of the great personality traits that Texans are so proud of, and we thank her for making our state a better place.

She was tougher than anyone out there. She didn't take herself seriously...or too seriously.
Leogirl needs to do some research because Ann didn't touch taxes in Texas

awwe...I know it!
I really admired her too! She was the first lady that I remember as a politition growing up.
She was fun to watch, and had great ideas that advanced us all as woman and minorities in Texas and maybe the entire country.
She will be missed!
Another great lady bit the dust! May God bless her intentions in this life!

She was a Texas icon. A good woman, even if you didn't like her politics.
