MIT has a 14% acceptance rate. That is extremely low, beaten only by Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Stanford, who have 9%, 10%, 11%, and 12%, respectively. You must have at least a 1500 on reading and math of SAT. Lots of AP courses, be really smart, do extra-curriculars, and really demonstrate a love for math and science. If you can do all that, and write a really good essay and get great teacher recommendations and interview, then you might get in.

It is very difficult to get in to MIT. If you are good enough to get in, then you should be able to get an excellent education.
Some people find it difficult socially. Most students there are used to being the smartest kid in their class. Many are shocked to find that at MIT they are just average. Others feed off the environment. The school used to have a much migher than average suicide rate -- but it is now below the netional average.
MIT is known for its engineering programs, but they also have one of the best undergraduate business schools and the best economics department in the country.
