when you started smoking you didn't start off with 3 packs a day.you started with 1 or 2 cigs. a day and went up from there. my father-in-law told me a secret to quit.you need to keep a paper on how many you smoke and every day take 2 cigs. away.by the time you get back down to 1 or 2 cigs.again ,you can toss them away. i wish you luck.

Smoking like any other addiction usually requires professional help to quit. Maybe your best bet is to talk to you doctor who could best answer your question about prescribed medicine or could help you join a support group or introduce you to alternate methods of quitting such as the patch.
All the best on your journey to becoming smoke free. When it becomes rocky still keep the faith, you'll get there.

This is what worked for me. You have to really want to quit though! Wear a patch, then when you do get a craving, just tell yourself..you can have one in a minute. Then when you think of it again, tell yourself, you can have one when you finish this. So you aren't denying yourself, you just keep putting it off and soon it will be a week or more and you'll be on your way! Then get a smaller dose patch and just keep going! After awhile you can tell yourself, if I take a puff now, I'll just get dizzy and have a bad taste in my mouth. YOU CAN DO THIS!! It's wonderful not to have to worry about having enough, running out, will they allow it there and the extra money is great too!! Good Luck!

i think it is best to slowly ween yourself down and then quit completely. i have not made the decision to completely quit yet but i have went from a pack a day to about 5-7 a day in a couple months. i have one in the morning, one on lunch break, one after work and probably 2-4 more during the night hours. i wish the both of us lots of luck.

You could ask your doctor about Wellbutrin. It's been used to reduce cravings and help you quit. My sister smoked for over 40 years and used Wellbutrin to wean herself off and now she hasn't smoked in 8 years!

do not be discouraged, few people are able to quit the first couple of times, you can use patches, gum, smoker anon., auricular therapy etc. the real answer is that you really make a decision to quit, not for someone else. good luck
