i am sick of paying 1% when i lose money

No. Even hedge funds charge 1 to 1.5% annually regardless of performance. On top of that, they typically charge 20% of profits.

But what do you invest in that your advisor charges you 1%?

Otherwise, they'd put you in some inappropriate investments and would only focus on % returns.

Only a silly financial advisor would build a relationship based on % returns (surely you're not basing your relationship with them on just % return...are you?).
