we live in a very old house, which when we originally bought it had damp, we had it treated and everything was then hunky dory, but now when the house has been closed up for a while, we occasionaly get a smell of fish???? its bizarre.........somone said old wiring can smell of fish? is this correct?? please help.

Check the pan under the refrigerator. That happened to me in my first apartment and I about went nuts trying to find the smell.

Leather, when damp can smell like fish as can raw silk. Are there some drapes or furniture original to the home that may have gotten damp?
I don't know about the wiring...I don't see how that would work, but who knows.

i was once called to a house where the lady complained that the outside of her fridge smelled like fish .come to find out a mouse entered the compressor area and died .the fish smell was decomposing mouse.i removed the mouse and used bleach to clean the area in about two days the smell was gone

i don't know anything about old wiring smelling like fish. but i do know that if a girl doesn't wash her *** everyday it probably will smell like fish.

It could be your pipes especially your kitchen pipes i would try running something like drano in them and then hot water for about 15 mins.
