Do I need to take him out of tank? Is this normal? He was fine yesterday.

I have other goldfish there, nothing fancy. Plastic plants and a bridge..nothing sharp. This is weird.

Okay, first of all how did the fish lose the eye? Is another fish attacking this one? If so, you need to separate them. There is not much else you can do. Keep an eye on him. If the tank conditions are good (good water quality) and the fish is otherwise healthy he will be okay. If you start to see signs of infection around his eye then you should move him to a separate hospital tank and treat with medication.

i agree with jerry. Make sure you clean water alot with goldfish or get a really big tank. I have 3 1 inch goldfish in a 55 gal tank (i expect them to get a lot bigger) but it takes a long time for the water levels to change. So i would suggest getting a big tank, depending on what size yours is. Also you might wanna try some aquerium salt. i dont think it will cure its eye but the salt helps fish recover from illness and disease. you can pick up aquerium salt at a pet store. DONT USE HOUSE HOLD SALT, it has iodine in it and is no good for fishies hope your fish gets better! I will say a prayer for it to heal

Chances are one of the other goldfish bit him and took out his eye. It can happen. Keep an eye (no joke intended) on the tank and see if any of the others appear aggressive or if that one's fins or body appear ragged as if bitten.
I don't think a cosmetic veterinary optician could do a contact lens for that fish but they may sell black eye patches that will match his coloring. It is a matter of his keeping up appearances.

Question is - what in your tank would have poked his eye out? What other fish do you have in there? Do you have anything that is sharp in there (rocks, plants, etc...)???

Sorry to hear this - that is terrible and he/she is not doubt suffering, but just keep a close on on him/her and if disease sets in - put him/her in a zip lock baggie of water, and put them in the freezer until they pass. Then you can properly dispose of them.

If you have other fish in the tank one of them probably ate it off. I had one and both his eyes got taken off by another fish. Then he died cause he couldnt see the food.

Get him an eye patch.

Sounds like you have another fish in there who may be the culprit

Make him a little tiny patch. He will look like Moshe Dayan.

leave him alone, he will be just fine, watch to make sure it doesn't get infected
I think you have some kind of algae eater or plecostomus
in your tank, that's who gets eyes
