is because I have panic and anexity attacks and I end up hyperventaliting. But if I wake up in the middle of the night I all of a sudden feel like I can't breath. It does eventually go away and I am fine again. I pray and ask God to help me. Can ya'll give me your thoughts on this? Thanks

Sounds as though it could be panic attacks, especially since it eventually goes away. It possible to wake up in an anxiety attack or a panic attack due to the sub-counscious mind. Either start practicing some relaxation exercises, or talk to your doctor about starting on a pill such as "Xanax" to cut down on some of the anxiety. But just in case your doctor should run test to rule out anything else.

Could also be reflux. I have woken up in the middle of the night unable to breathe and feels like someone is sitting on my chest. I get up and take some Maalox and it helps instantly. It wouldn't hurt to try it.

maybe it's sleep apnea, where a person stops breathing while asleep, and wakes up gasping for air. A sleep study can diagonose this disease. Try xanax if it's anxiety.

You may need to see a sleep specialist it could be sleep apnea,it could also be anxiety but you should really try to find out what it is i have asthma so i know what it feels like to have your breathing interrupted,so find out what is going on and take care. PS.a friend

Yes, if you have a lot of anxiety see a MD psychiatrist. Here is a medication that fixed my problem; ask the doctor if it might help you:
