yes if you go to Epcot in Disney world you can ride a ride that show you the process its really boring though,

you just put plants on a plastic board and float them on fertilized water that's it. there was also an episode on how its made on the discovery channel about this way of gardening

Yes. Its growing things without soil. They are grown in water only. In my local supermarket we can buy lettuce and other things which are grown hydoponically. You must keep the roots in water if you want them to last in the fridge. Mushrooms are another, I think.
