My due date is 9/16 and today is the 14th. However my doctor said I am showing no signs of labor, my cervix is still closed, and my little girl is still very high. She set my up to be induced on Tuesday 9/19. Everyone is telling me to let it happen on its on. While I do agree with that becuase I heard inducing usually results in c-sections which I dont want, I am very ready to get her out and see her and be able to sleep on my back. Please can someone help me. I need an answer from someone who is not biased. Thank You!

Avoid having them induce you at all costs. Its not worth it. Theres a reason why the baby hasnt dropped and you have no signs of labor... theyve miscalculated your due date and the baby simply isnt ready yet.
keep active walk walk walk and walk some more, have sex as much as possible, use your breast pump, and mop on your hands and knees. These things all help induce labor naturally.
Induced labors last so very much longer than natural ones, and the pain is incredibly more intense. I cant believe that they would insist on inducing you three days past your due date. You need to get a different doctor next time. Theyre doing it because its easier and safer for them, not because its better for you and the baby. And thats never okay. Standard practice is to wait no more than two weeks before getting to the point of chemical induction of labor.
Anyway, drink fluids, eat well, stay as incredibly active as you can without beoming tired. Using your breast pump can really help, just for an hour or so a day. The baby hasnt released the hormones for milk production, so anything you get out isnt important. The real stuff comes in a couple hours after labor starts. Its the best way, its worked for everyone i know who's tried it.
I'd also try sex a couple times a day, or once a day. Thats a GREAT place to start.
And walking. its a great way to allow the baby to drop and move your body. Mopping on your knees also helps to allow the baby more room for dropping.
You'll survive. Its not uncommon for women to go a couple weeks past their due date. It'll happen, dont worry.

I was induced with both my children (0 and 2) neither had to go into c section and I was told that that doesn't happen very often anymore. My 1 st experience was a great one...they didn't know how far along I was so I don't know if I was early or late but I delivered in 4 hours no complications. My second inducement was three weeks early due to high blood pressure and din;t go so well she was not ready to come out but my body was ready to have her out. My labor with her was about 10 hours. It took a long time for her to descend and then she got stuck because she had not rotated into the birthing position. Afterwords I was told this happens even in natural deliveries sometimes but I am suspicious! All in all I would not have gone with the 2 inducement in hindsight. Also inducing is only a lot more painful if done quiclkly, if it is done is slow increments then it is uasually not any more painful than regualr birthing.

I have heard it is best to let it happen on it's own. I've also been told that it is much more painful to have it induced than to go with the flow. In all of honestly this is completely up to you. A few things that can help it along is sex. Yes that's right. Some have also suggested castor oil and orange juice. But I wouldn't go with that method, too messy in the end.
I'm not sure what type of answer or help you are needing. You could possible ask the doctor to give it a few more weeks to allow your body a little more time if that is what you are wanting. Also why is it you don't want a c-section? Is it the scar, the healing? If it is the scar, here is a positive way to look at it: you will have a love or miracle mark. That scar is there from giving life.
I wish you the best of luck in whatever you choose. Just remember this is something you have to decide on your own. Don't let other people worry you with offensive comments saying it's better to do it one way or the other. I was almost going to have my labor induced, but she came on time.

I wouldn't. Obviously the baby is still in there for a reason. It is different if you are overdue. But to do it a week ahead for no reason is kinda pointless. I can only tell you how magical and special it is to go into labor on you own. I didn't get the chance with my first two. my daughter was 10 days late and my son had a heart arrhythmia. So I was induced with both. But my third labor started on it's own with my water breaking. IT was a very exciting experience that I wouldn't trade for anything. So as someone who has done it both ways, I would suggest you just let nature take it's course and let your body work as it's supposed to. It will be something you will never forget. I am not talking about the pain. :)

ok I was in your shoes. I got induced and everyone said don't. But I was so sick of being pregnant. I was going to be a mother for the 1st time and wanted to see my little boy. I was 1 and 1/2 cm and doctors asked if I wanted he'd set it up for me to be induced. I was induced. I didn't walk at all. And after my 7 month I was didn't want to work so stoped working and just basicaly sat at home all day. I didn't work out at all from 7 months till I was induced and I am very tiny 5'2 and 100pounds not pregnant. And when I was induced it was a long 14 hours but I didn't get a c section. I tore a little but that was it. For me being induced was worth it. I also took lamaze and just because you are induced doesn't mean u will get a c section. Alot of people doe end up getting c sections because they get sick of waiting for the baby to come and ask the doctor to give a c section. As long as you and your baby is healthy then labor maybe long if you are induced but you won't have to get a c section. GOOD LUCK Being a mom is great.

There are a few thoughts that I will share with you.
I have always believed that old saying... When the apple is ripe and ready for harvest, it will indeed fall to the ground on it's own.
When carrying a child, especially for the first time, many different things occur.
Perhaps you were a bit off on exactly when you became pregnant. Or then again maybe you know exactly when you conceived.
Never the less, I have never known a physician to just want to jump the gun and get it over with, unless the fetus was in danger.
This is your body and your baby. You need to be very upfront with this doctor and ask what's the rush??
The child is in no danger, so what will a few more weeks hurt??
Unless there is a medical issue, I see no need to intervene with nature. Let it be, and when the child is Truly Due, he or she will make their appearance.
My best friend is an OBGYN, and she has told me that many times when this happens... doctors may be going on vacation or overbook in other areas. They do it only for their own convince.
This is sad but true.
Be wise and DO NOT be afraid to ask questions and stand your ground.

You can wait if you want but to be safe you should not wait past 9/26-9/28 because the longer you wait to be induced the higher risk you have of the babies placenta seperating from your uterine wall. Inducing wo/ any progress will almost certainly mean a c-section but it could be for the best. Inducing has a bunch of risk factors like your blood pressure and the baby going into distress which would also result in c-section. Wouldnt it be better to have you baby constantly monitored while being induced versus having the risk of the placenta detatching from your uterine wall and not being anywhere near medical help for an emergency c-section. C-sections are not as bad as they are made out to be!

Inducing labor can potentially be dangerous. I had serious cardiac issues when I was induced. But the kid's gotta come out somehow. Most doctors don't want you to go more than a week past due date, so the 19th seems a bit soon. You should ask if you are having any health issues that might be alarming, like swollen ankles or fluctuating blood pressure. Sometimes if the baby's late, you can go pre-eclampsic. Good luck!

I wouldn't wait too long. If could be weeks before you go into labor on your own which could cause a bigger baby anyway which would probably result in a C-section.
I would go with the induction. I was induced and I did have to have a C-section but only because my pelvic bone was too small and they didn't catch this until after they induced me. I've had a couple of friends who have been induced with several pregnancies and never had a C-section.
I would go with what you're doctor says.
Good luck and congrats!

I understand your reasoning for not being induced. I was induced b/c I was so uncomfortable but it was all worth it. I was waited to see if I could have my baby girl naturally but it did end up being a c-section. I know you may feel that you want to wait to see what happens but if medically you need to have this done then I would do it. Having a c-section isn't that bad as people say it is. You're hurting for like the first day or two and then you are back on your feet. Slowly but still on your feet. I think you should do what your heart desires. I know when I had the opportunity to see if I wanted to be induced, I took that chance b/c I wanted to see my first born. I didn't want to wait another day. good luck and congrats
