Beat up on crappy NL teams and pretty much clinch a playoff spot at the all star break....then get tooled on by American league teams during interleague play and of course the world series...I think we all see this comming.

Exactly right. They do not have the quality of pitching on the Mets staff to compete with any of the American League contenders. They will get into the Series, but will not win it.

It will be interesting. I think the Mets have a few more weapons than the Cards did last year. And remember the Cards got tooled by a NL team - the Astros - not an AL team.

There are a lot of ifs with Mets pitching. Well, starting pitching anyway - their relief is excellent.

Is Pedro healthy in the first place. Personally, I think with the Mets having such a big lead they basically just gave Pedro a month off. I think he'll be fine.

Also, will their 3rd started perform? El Duque perhaps? Usually clutch in the post season, but aging. But, keep in mind, the other playoff teams have the same 3rd pitcher question mark as well. And all you Yankees fans out there who thinks Randy Johnson is not a question mark, you are delusional, or have a very short memory of what happened last postseason.

Their lineup is good enough to win, but their pitching remains a question mark.

I think at the end of the day, if they win the series, they have to be considered the best team in baseball. But, that's a big if.

Nope. Sorry but the Mets have a better lineup than the Cardinals did those last few years. You could argue the 3, 4, 5 of Edmonds, Pujols and Rolen are better than Beltran, Delgado and Wright, but I think the Mets have a much more solid lineup there. The Mets have the best leadoff hitter in the game in Reyes and one of the best No. 2 hitters in LoDuca...not to mention Cliff Floyd, Shawn Green, Endy Chavez and Jose Valentin filling out the rest of the lineup.

Also, the Cards couldnt put teams away with Isringhausen closing, another reason the Mets are better with Wagner.

That brings us to the bullpen, they have Heilman, Bradford, Feliciano, Mota and Hernandez which is one of the best, if not the best in baseball. Much better than Julian Tavarez, Ray King and the other clowns the Cardinals were throwing out in 2004 and 2005.

The truth is though, I'm a Mets fan and I believe in this team, but we wont know the real answer to this until October is over.

Not this team, it's exactly like 1986, the Mets won the division by over 20 games and clinched in early-mid Sept. The Sox were the team destined to do something and the Astros were supposed to be the team to derail the team that was coasting. What happened? Same deal the Mets have the best 'pen and in the playoffs, as we've seen, 2 pitchers can win it for you.

The Mets are a fun and exciting team and they play a very solid game of baseball with many outstanding players. They have the best record in baseball and they will prove that they are not a fluke. If you do not realize this then you have not watched this team in action. They are very complete and should do quite well in the playoffs. I have watched them very closely for the last several years and unlike last year's team, the current team demonstrates a resilience and perseverance that few other teams, if any.

No, because the Mets will put up a fight in the World Series unlike the 2004 Cardinals.

A very interesting observation. You could be exactly correct. We will know soon enough. The Mets look pretty formidable now, but you are right that the Cardinals looked the same way previously.

You won't be able to answer that question til we get to October. I am worried about their starting pitching but their offense is very explosive and frankly none of the AL contenders (including the Yankees) have overly dominating pitching. So don't sell the Amazings short just yet.

I think it is possible, as of now they are the best of the NL but they have been showing some vunerability lately, whith the Dodgers and Phillies starting to win games against them.
