Very good point, bharris. Just a question, not trying to pick on anyone.

I would agree with that statement. In most power situations there is some way for them to be monitored. When parents have absolute power over their children, they still have police, local and federal officials, and other citizens around them to monitor and police their actions. When you have real absolute power, the ability to be monitored goes away. Even if you are not intending to be corrupt or abuse your power, you can still end up that way, since there is a lack of healthy criticism.

Regarding the answer about parents-while they may have authority over their children they rarely have total power over them unles they follow them around 24/7. When my kids are at school, for instance, they are not under my scrutiny and are therefore empowered to make their own choices in many situations. Since our government is set up with a system of checks and balances(which fails miserably at times) their is never a chance for total power. The people always have the control of the vote.

Two major signs of immediate trouble:

1) The 2 term limit on the Presidency is changed.

2) If the people's right to bear arms is infringed upon.

Power can be used for good and for bad. For example it took bunches of power to build the Hoover Dam. It took the ingenuity of the US Army to build the Alaskan Highway. It is taking the US Army Core of Engineers to rebuild the levies in Louisiana. No one denies we have a few bad politicians, and a few crooks. in time with the process in place, they will be driven out and punished.
Overall what we have is a really good thing. Don't muck it up.

She misquotes, but the point is taken...all the power has obviously gone to his head. Ted Koppel's report the other night spelled it all out, although he tried to remain bi partisan. It had to have been a tough job to ride the fence like that, but Koppel is a master!

So, because parents have total power over their children, they are totally corrupt?

You are comparing apples to oranges. America offers freedom and individual responsibility. And, until a country messes with us, all we do is try to help them with money, doctors, and goods that will help their country prosper.

Power creates corruption and absolute power creates absolute corruption.

U.S., constitution should be amended and the President's powers should be restricted, so that he can not rage wars, disturb the world peace, disgrace U.S. and its citizens.

I will tell you what is a disgrace..... people that are so closed minded that they dont realize that the simple right of voicing their negative opinions about their country is not a right of other citizens in some other countries. Point is, even the freakin idiots are free in this great country of ours.

"Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" is the line. I don't see that our government is that corrupt. Only liberal see this administration as such. The last one, though, wasn't at all.
