I am 29, female, overweight, have had this before, but I'm reading it can indicate heart disease. I do have really bad allergies to the point that I sometimes get low grade fevers if I don't clean my apartment. I have an anxiety disorder and am constantly under stress, which I also understand can raise WBC counts. Any help? Doc says this isn't something to worry about, but of course I'm going to worry. How high IS 11.7?

Yes, it is elevated but since you have allergies, I suspect the eosinophile count is increased. Eosinophila is common in allergies, and parasitic infestations and is not linked to heart disease per se. It sounds to me (I am a physician) that your doctor is right on the button...do shed the pounds, and look for the causes of your allergies...dust molds, cats, etc...and live a healthier life.

Sounds like whatever is causing your low grade fevers is also bumping up your WBC numbers. If your doctor says it is no big deal, you have two choices: (1) accept that and have your blood retested in a couple of months to see if it changes; or (2) Go get a second opinion.

11.7 is not that high, but you don't want to get it any higher, talk to your doctor and ask him/her if there are anyway to lower you WBC levels, high levels of WBC's can indicate many things, heart disease, cancer, infection, and stress. the fact that you are over weight doesn't help either. you should tell your doctor to refer you to a nutritionist and maybe you should take some standard tests to make sure you health. good luck
