Because some Americans are ignorant. I'm an American living in Germany now, and I think this is a beautiful country, and the German people are amazing.

I don't think the German people are at fault for what happened with Hitler. What could they have done against him? Speak out, and then have a midnight visit from the Gestapo? Wind up in a concentration camp?

Ich liebe Deutschland!

All Americans should know what a great country this is. Best beer and wine, right here!

But most Americans realize all of this. It's just the ignorant ones that don't.

First of all MOST Americans do not dislike Germany. But there are a few usually older Americans who remember the War, that do hold Germany responsible for trying to take over the world and all the atrocities that the Nazis perpetrated. Most Americans know that now we live in a different world than then and do not hold Germany responsible.

I am an American who lived in West Germany for 18 months in the mid 1980's. I absolutely loved the country, it's culture, and it's people. I enjoyed my time there very much, and wish I could afford to take my wife over there on vacation. I respect their way of life, their carefree attitudes, and I was always treated with respect, even though I served in the military and some of my comrades showed them their "ugly american" side. Germany is a beautiful country, with rich history, and should not be judged by the events of the two world wars. Every nation on earth has made mistakes. To judge an entire country on events or past history is a mistake. I would absolutely love to return to my old stomping grounds, Bad Kreuznach and Bad Munster. They truly were good times, with good people, in a place that will always remain special to me. Guten Tag!

The Americans you have talked to about this probably had no or little interaction with the German people. They do seem a bit aloof in mannerisms, and may not seem overly friendly. But that's more in thier nature. People I met in Germany kind of impressed me that way. But once you get to know them, it was different. Especially those with whom you had regular contact

Sorry friend but old hurts die hard. I'm the grandson of an immigrant from Germany at the onset of W.W.2 and I see this stuff all the time. If that's not bad enough the skin heads claim ties to Nazi factions in Germany and that don't help a thing.

Basically Germany is a great place to visit, but living there is tough.

I love Germany, i have some friends that live over there(i met them in a foreign exchange program when they came to america). the only reason i can see for hating you guys is jealousy because your drinking age is determined by when a person can start drinking liquids by themselves. Lucky!
