Distance = rate x time the anser is 4hrs........But how I have no IDEA.....

Since, when the second train passes the first, they must have travelled the same distance, you can make the following equation, where t is the time in hours:

Distance = 60*t = 45*(t + 1.5)

60t = 45t + 67.5

Subtract 45t from both sides,

15t = 67.5, t = 4.5 hours. (and they will have both travelled 270 miles).
