This might be hard, sorry.

Long guitar intro, starts out "she's a lady" or "here's a lady" or
"there's a lady" - suggest anything, i'll check them all, and i'll know it as soon as I hear it.

(not stairway)

I GOT IT, but i'll leave it open for someone to get 10 points.

It started out "hey lady", and it was Zepplin.

Could be you're thinking of a Led Zeppelin song. Although, Robert Plant isn't singing "lady" he's saying "baby"

"Hey baby, oh baby, pretty baby
Tell me what you're doing now
Hey baby, oh baby, pretty baby
Move the way you're doing now"

This is from the song "Black Dog"

Hope that helps.

Based on your description, it sounds like Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, not Clapton.
