How fitting that the Mets will more than likely clinch the division Friday night when Pedro Martinez returns. First team to 90 wins this year, its been a long time. New York was, is, and always will be a National League town and New York baseball is finally coming home. Lets Go Mets!

I live in Queens and while they're are A LOT of Yankees fans, and its true, what I meant basically was that in the 30's 40's etc..with the Giants and Dodgers, the NL was loved, there may be a lot of Yankees fans, even more than there are Mets fans, but when it comes to passion for the team and for the game, NY is an NL town. Earlier this year I read a great article about this topic by the Daily News's Vic Ziegel, you should try to find it if you can.

No, I'm not an Islanders fan, thank god. I root for a hockey team on the other side of the country.

Daily News will probably still have Yankees results on back page instead of Mets Clincher, lol.

I'm a huge Mets fan, and always have been. And I agree that it would be especially sweet if the Mets can clinch with Pedro on the mound (a Phillies loss today would make that even more probable).

But, I have to disagree with you when you say NYC is a national league city. I live here (maybe you do too?), and have to say that as much as the Yankees disgust me, there are more Yankees fans than Mets. And outside of maybe '86, that has always been the case.

I will say though, there is a slight shift this year, simply because those fans who aren't die hard on one side or another may favor the Mets because frankly, they have more likable players on their team than do the Yanks...

National League town!!! The mets weren't even around until the 60's. How can you say was, is and always will be. The Yankees own New York and always will. The Mets are the underachieving red-headed step child. You will never be as good as the Yankees. Guaranteed, the Mets will do something to blow it this year.

Yankees are the best team in baseball. forget the mets, look who they played all year the NL are you serious. Let them play the AL for 85% of the season instead of the 15% they did play and its a wrap, Yankees are the best

As long as the Yankees live in New York the Mets will never be anything but "The other New York team." Sad but a fact of life. As far as Pedro, forget it. He will never be anything but a five inning starter. Vastly overrated.

Amen, brother! But I think Pedro is already over the hill and seems that he never wins the tough game. Example: we needed him to win a game against Philadelphia early in the year. He didn't.
