Well, hardware firewalls are better than software ones (like you have) because if a virus would get on your computer it couldn't turn the firewall off. If you have a router between you and the Internet, it probably has a hardware one.
I scan mine with AdAware and SpyBOT every once in a while too. They are free, easy to find, and sometimes find junk that the others don't. Nothing serious, but junk that you don't want.
That said, for the typical home user, you are fine. There are a few things I do on my business network that tighten things, but they also make the Internet a little less usable and they really are not necessary at home. You have almost the same setup I do if you have a router.
Bigger security issues for most home users are wireless ones. If you have wireless and don't at least have a WEP key (though they really are not secure-but they help), you might want to look at that. If you have any questions email me.

Well AVG isn't the best antivirus, but it's better than McAfee which people actually pay for. If you want a better free antivirus I'd recommend Avast. Microsoft firewall is adequate, but a router with a built in firewall is better.
Windows defender is useless. I recommend Ad-Aware Personal from www.lavasoft.com as an antispyware program. Spybot Search and Destroy is also very good, you can get it at www.download.com
Firefox does not appear to give any more protection against spyware than IE. I've been using it for a while and noticed no improvements in security.

You could enhance your protection by adding a hardware router, if you have a broadband connection.
The Windows firewall is effective to some extent. It's main criticism is that it doesn't have any way to protect you from trojans that access the Internet from the inside-out. If this concerns you, you might want to get ZoneAlarm free. It's available at zone-labs.com.

It's good to have more firewalls. Try something like Black Ice, with your windows firewall. WIndows defender is not really that ... usefull anyway.
ALso try NOD 32 or Kaspersky as antiviruses.

hi, perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus and protect your PC. but you need to pay for the software
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

Yes, but it would be more of a pain. For the average user, your current set-up is plenty secure. Better programs exist, but they interfere more with your daily operations, and they are usually a little expensive.
