Trying to make something of myself and help my family...?
I am currently a stay at home mother of two small babies. I want to take courses online to get a diploma so in a year and a half, when my mother retires, she can watch my kids and I can go back to work. My husband and I live off one income and it is really hard. I am looking into taking courses to become a medical office assistant. They offer you a diploma if you take all the courses and pass them. I already have my AA degree.
What I am wanting to know is that, will I be able to get a job with just an AA degree and a Diploma for Medical office assistant????
I want to work in the office of a Doctor, Hospital, or clinic.
I want a career, a good one, when I go and try to find a job.
Please give me your input.
Thanks.

I would be very leery of an on-line "diploma" unless the program is affiliated with a recognized "bricks and mortar" school with a decent reputation. It's too easy to scam people over the internet. I know in my profession (law), we would never consider hiring someone with a "legal assistant diploma" from an internet site we'd never heard of. In fact, although such programs are widely advertised in our area, I've never even seen a resume from a "graduate" of such a program. Why don't you call some physician's offices in your area and speak to the office manager about this? They should be able to tell you what kind of qualifications they look for.

If you're not too bright, become a medical assistant and stop there.
If you are reasonably intelligent, become a nurse, unless you can't stand body fluids and wounds and being responsible for someones life, then become a medical assistant.
If becoming an RN isn't for you, then think about the medical assistant to office manager game plan.

Your best bet is a degree. It will cost you more but in the Long term you'll be able to get a position in a hospital or clinic where you can get benifits and a pension. Those things are a must in todays world. More so if something were to happen to you, would your familly be able to survive if something were to happen to you?
