Have re-read the book many times and have also seen the film many times. The book is wonderful, and the movie is a good adaptation. I think the movie leaves out a few critical things, however. In the book, Scarlett has a child with Charles and another with Frank. They were left out of the movie. They were important because Rhett liked them and was nice to them, while selfish Scarlett ignored them........

The book is great. IF you've seen the film the characters are so well drawn that you will feel they have cut scenes from the film. Which is probably true. The original cut was over 4 hours long. The book is richer and you will get more family history. More than that might spoil some surprises in Scarlett's parent's past that are a bit telling of her own character. Enjoy it.

Gone with the Wind is one of my all time favorite books. There is a lot more detail in the book than in the movie although the story is the same. The book is around a thousand pages but it is worth reading it. The portrayal of Scarlett is simply marvelous

I loved the book so much more than the film. Not that I dislike the film--I don't--I just really LOVE the book. I think there are definite differences between the book and film.

Saw the film and loved it. Read the book and loved that too. It is different from the film, but not so different that you wont enjoy the film again afterwards.

The film is a good representation of the book, however there's a lot that was cut.

Be prepared to read dialect. I know there were parts that I had to read out loud to myself to be able to understand what was being said.

The book was soooo much better. The movie stuck to the general gist, but it left out alot (like a couple of kids!). It is really good I highly recommend it.

There is, of course, more going on in the book, but it is a solid adaptation
