We are really rural here, and change happens slowly. However, this seems to have come on us like a storm. The local grocery franchises now make a person jump through hoops to use a check to pay for groceries. When denied the privilege of paying with check because I had already written a check at that store earlier in the week, I asked what was up. I usually buy groceries $400 at a time, so to be denied was really frustrating. This was a small check. I have a good reputation, etc. Anyway, they said it is new policy. No one is using checks anymore and they are more careful about those that they accept. Now, if anyone writes more than one check in a week they are automatically denied. They told me to get a debit card or carry cash.

I only write checks to pay credit cards through the mail but only because they charge too much to use debit over the phone.

Yup, I rarely ever write checks, the only check I usually write each month is for my rent. Almost everything else is automated.

YES. Thank you for bringing this up! It is so passe and takes forever to wait behind someone in line who whips out the checkbook. Amen to that.

for sure they are, wal-mart started that new system a fews ago, don't mind saying it, shows my age, but truly don't like that easy acces to making accounts, like my canceled check to prove I paid it,in case what I purchased broke down, don't want to have to summit by whole bank statement, its big brother going to far
