Any suggestions for a 17 year old boy's birthday party?

We have the traditional birthday party with the cake and ice cream when a family member has a birthday.

Where would be a good place for him and his friends to hang out? And should I ask his girlfriend to help with the party or would that be stepping over the boundaries of the teenage "don't go there" attitude?

Ask him where he'd like to go and what he'd like to do. He's old enough to make that decision.

And ask him if it's ok to have his girlfriend help with the party. Let that decision be his since it's his girlfriend.
