Which American Natives do you need to know about? The Iroquios Nation ate differently then the Great Plains Indians or the ones living down in the south-east. Be more specific.

They ate corn, beans, and squash (the 3 sisters). They also ate deer, rabbits, squirrels, Prairie dog, Beaver, Lamb, Buffalo, Mutton, fish, wild onions, cabbage, pumpkins, and cactus. They used herbs and plants such as Peppermint, Spearmint, Clover, Sage, and Rosehips to make teas and other foods

They also ate skunk, muskrat and raccoon; reptiles including snakes, lizards, turtles, and alligators; fish and shellfish; wild birds including ducks and geese; sea mammals (for Indians living in coastal areas); insects including locust, spiders and lice; and dogs. (Wolves and coyotes were avoided because of religious taboos)http://www.westonaprice.org/traditional_diets/native_americans.html

They ate what was available to them in their homeland....The same as any other culture...If you are referring to the thoughts of southern tribes of Native Americans being cannibals it was NEVER Proven and recently thought to be false.....Besides all Pre-Colombian cultures have at one time or another been under suspicion of being cannibalistic.....

Diets varied pretty much by tribe. Some were hunter gatherers, killing deer and buffalo, and gathering roots, berries, nuts, etc. as they found them. Other tribes grew their own corn. But I'm sure they also hunted and gathered. I can't see corn as a sole provider for all their nutritional needs.

Deer, fruit, berries, fish...they lived off the land. Any resources you can think of that come from nature, they used it.
