I have purchased a belkin router and have set up networks before, but I have always had a PC. Trying to set up network for my son and roommate and both have laptops. They purchased cable high speed internet. After pluggin up the router, the signal was there but no server. They both need wireless internet.

Physically plug one of their laptops directly into the router and just configure the network like you would from a PC. Once that is done, disconnet the laptop and connect wirelessly.

Is the Belkin router a wireless? If not, you'll have to use an ethernet cable for the laptops. It would be a good idea to setup up the router using a network cable anyway. Make sure the router will give out IP addresses and DHCP is turned on.

a laptop is just a smaller version of a PC. you should be able to plug it up via ethernet just like you did with a PC. make sure the cable modem is plugged into the router. then plug both laptops into the router. you might have to setup the router, it usually comes with a cd. if that doesn't work, try plugging one laptop directly into the cable modem. if that works, then you will need to call your router manufacturer. if you want to go wireless, get a wireless router, and make sure their laptops have wireless cards.

Set up the cable service to only one of the laptops first to ensure everything works okay.
If not get hold of the ISP's support team.
Once you have the single laptop working with the ISP's modem, and you can access the web okay, then you can include the Belkin router and connect both laptops to it.

Your laptop is a pc. just plug it into the router with a cat5 cable, most laptops have a NIC built in, if not you will need to get a PCMCIA card. setup your router, your wireless settings, and you should be good to go. Unplug your laptop from the router and use the wireless.

I also have a laptop and had to connect wireless to a router...what I used is a Netgear adapter, 108 Mbps wireless pc card, 32 bit cardbus WG511T.it has great signal, it inserts right inside the laptop, and i haven't had any problems with it.good luck :)
