Actually Saturday is considered the Sabbath day, or Holy day, but the Christian culture goes on Sunday, at least in America. There's a few like Seventh-Day Adventist, and Jehovah's Witness which celebrate the Lord's day on Saturday. The reason Christians even have a day is because the 7th day is the day that God rested after Creation. I personally go to church on Sunday, but do acknowledge that it should be Saturday, technically.

The Catholics changed the Sabbath to Sunday. Some believe the true Sabbath is on Saturday. I think Christians can have their own Sabbath with other believers whatever day of the week they want. The weekend is just easier. The Bible says to observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. The definition of Sabbath is a day of rest.

The early Christians had the custom to meet on the first day of the week, Sunday, to conduct church business. I believe it became a custom after that to differentiate it from the Jewish sabbath which is Saturday.

on sunday memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people assent, saying Amen; and there is a distribution to each, and a participation of that over which thanks have been given, and to those who are absent a portion is sent by the deacons. And they who are well to do, and willing, give what each thinks fit; and what is collected is deposited with the president, who succours the orphans and widows and those who, through sickness or any other cause, are in want, and those who are in bonds and the strangers sojourning among us, and in a word takes care of all who are in need.

The Bible says to keep the Sabbath holy. The Sabbath actually started on Friday at dusk and ended on Sunday (I think it's Sunday, not sure) at dusk. That has come to mean Sunday in our busy world. There used to be laws that didn't allow any stores to be open on Sundays. People didn't work on Sundays, it was dedicated to the Lord. My mother told me when she was growing up that her mother prepared all the food for Sunday on Saturday, because you just didn't work on Sunday. How things have changed, haven't they?

We go to church (God's House) to Worship God. Of course we can and do worship Him everywhere and anywhere else as well. We observe Sunday as our day of worship because Jesus Christ, God's Son, arose on Sunday morning. We observe every Sunday as a little Easter Sunday remembering what Christ has done for us, namely died for our sins and risen again to redeem us, so that we may have eternal life in heaven with Him.

It is the Sabbath and consider the most holy day of the week. I don't know why they have to go to church though. If you have two knees and a place to kneel anywhere can be church. Bless you.

In the creation story, the seventh day was the day of rest; because Sunday is the seventh day, it is the day when people rest and revive their spirits through worship.
