I want to congratulate you on an excellent decision! I think it is the most special gift you can give your baby. I breastfed my first baby until 16 months and my second baby is almost 6 months old and I am breastfeeding her. CONGRATULATIONS.

I also highly recommend La Leche league, they've been the experts in breatfeeding for decades. They have consultants who will work with your personally to help you through any difficulties and perhaps even come to your home and they have helped me a lot. The hospital may also give you good literature on how to breatfeed. Two pieces of advice from me: make sure you get as much of the aereloa in as you can (the area around your nipple), and if it hurts more than you expect, it does not necessarily mean you are doing it wrong (despite what you may read), and just hang on, it gets better as the weeks go by. I know women with eight kids who breastfed every single on of them, and they say the same thing. If you want to learn more about the benefits of breastfeeding I recommend Mercola.com. Good luck and congratulations!

Here you go.....
The first one below has a lot of links specifically for dads.
Good books to share:
The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by La Leche League
So THAT'S What They're For by Janet Tamaro
Contact your local La Leche League Leader. Usually, the series meetings are for mothers only. Sometimes there are conferences that BOTH mom and dad can attend or sometimes a group might have a "couples meeting" where dads are welcome too. Maybe meeting other fathers of nursing babies would be helpful to him. And of course you could build up a good support system for after the birth for yourself as well!

La Leche League is a wonderful mother-to-mother support group that also has a fantastic website. The website has great information and I believe it is really important to connect with other moms/families who believe in the same thing, are knowledgable, and will help you through tough breastfeeding situations. Most meetings are open to mom and dad. The Dr. Sears parenting library is a great resource also, as all of their books promote breastfeeding. www.lalecheleague.org and www.askdrsears.com

First of all congrats to both of u. You are going to take a very good decision to breastfeed your child. This has many advantages for both the mother and the child as the milk for the kid is going to be bacteria free and heaalthy too which will make the child strong enough to fight with the viruses. Breast feeding is going to be good for the mother also as it will make her fit and fine, healthy, phisicaally in shaape too, which will make your hisband happy to. You will automatically loose your fat, weight till you are breastfeedding the child, but eat nutrious diet and always drink a little water before feeding as it will take care of your body temp. before the feed.

The sites above are GREAT!
I also recommend a breastfeeding class through your hospital. Getting to see and hear things in person (as well as meet a good Lactation Consultant) would have been GREAT for me before my son was born, but I didn't do it and wish I had.
Congrats!

I breastfed for 14 months and recommend "The Nursing Mother's Companion." It answers all your questions and more.
