I live in central new York and I have 4 horses. They are in the field for the summer. In the winter they stay close to the barn and or not exercised regularly - I feed them good quality hay- timothy, broome and alfalfa mix. They don't need any grain unless it is very cold out for an extended period, or I need them to come to the barn. They get about 1/2 a bale a day each, but they are free stalled so I throw them 3 bales and watch how they consume it- I adjust by looking at their weight and how much there is left each day. You can buy a tape to weigh them. The breed, gender, age, and condition of your horses all come into play. Just be sure to spend time with them every day, and you will know if you are feeding them correctly. Also remember that any feed change should be gradual to prevent colic.

You can probably cut it down and give extra hay or round bales like mentioned. Some horses can hold their weight with no or little grain some lose weight unless they get a scoop or more daily. Just keep a close eye on them as you slowly reduce portions. Particularly in winter they should be full across the top with out big fatty bulges. Don't mistake a heavy coat for extra weight.

THe best way to feed horses is to use a good quality hay as that will provide most of what they need.
I use a pelleted feed and they get about a quart scoop per day and only if they need it.
I have a mare who is fat off hay only and wears a garzing muzzle for half the day. She gets only a vitamin suppliment and the feed thru fly cotrol product and no grain.
My thoroughbred gelding gets about one quart of pellets and feed thru fly control and all the hay he can eat free choice.
I do not like the sweet feed products I prefer the pellets as they offer more nutrition in an easier to digest formula.
Brand is a personal choice. I like Foundation made by Aruora but it is hard to find and available in the midwest but I am not sure where else.

Depends what part of the country you are are in. If in the SE, Seminole makes a great product.
