You have so many good answers ..What can I add...

you don't measure success as a long journey from one point of origin
you measure many little successes along your path of life....

By self awareness of course! Some people decide that success is being happy, others believe it is by social or economic status, whatever the case, if you believe you are successful, then you are. The poor college droppout that has tons of friends and family may belive he/she is very successful because of the multitude of friends and family that surround that person and aide in happiness. Whereas another person in the same situation may not consider themselves successful unless they have money, a degree, ect. It just depends on the person.

Only you can "measure" your own success level. Just ask yourself a few questions. Like:
Am I happy with my current pursuits?
Are the goals important to me accomplished or close to it?
Do I think I have achieved the success I intended?

By how genuinely happy you are. You could have all the money in the world but have only 3 days to live with illness. You could have the fastest car but not have a wife who loves you. In general, i would regard a person to be successful in life when they have a happy life with a person they love and enough money to get by with maybe a little over.

Consciously I measure success by an individual's happiness and sense of fulfillment in life.

Subconsiously I measure success by how much money a person makes and how popular they are.

In your heart. What makes you feel successful may not seem that way to someone else. Myself, I'm happily married and have 2 kids and 2 stepsons. Although life is a struggle for us financially sometimes, we have a roof over our heads and food on the table and everything we need, so that's all I need at this point in my life, so I feel like I'm successful in this way. A lot of people are a lot worse off.

Strong marriage or relationship, children who are healthy and close to parents and other siblings, good friends who are there even if you don't see them for months on end. A career or job.business that is exactly what I could hope for, ability to live day to day without unnecessary worry. Then...a home to be proud of, vehicles that don't always break down, enough money to know I don't have to worry about not having enough for bills, mortgage etc.

Lastly, the ability to leave for my family inheritances that are memorable, wanted, needed and appreciated.

So far I'm doing them all except the inheritances...as I'm not dead yet :)

for me success can't be measured materially. success is inside/internal factor of your self. if you feel the great satisfaction of whatever you do or of your life then it is a success because your happy enough of doing your best that you didn't thought of mistakes anymore. it is in yourself and your own assessment that measures your success not the other way around like counting all your material things.

There are two types of success, internal and external. internal has to do with self fulfillment, and can be measured in terms of how happy you are with yourself. External has to do with money and material possessions, which help to define our social and economic status. The more you have the higher up this scale you go.

The most important thing is family. You have a wife, few kids, that's all that really matters. Money isn't everything in the world, all you need money is to support the family. Cheers.
