Back in '68 I had just got out of the Army. I intended
to go back to college which I did. I was majoring in
math. Well I was always fascinated with science. I
read all the science articles from mags and I had a question. How do computers know the answer to a question. I was working at an engineering and
manufacturing company as a lab technician and
they had a terminal connected to a computer a
hundred miles away. I used the facility and eventually
was invited to learn the programming language and
do some minor program maintenance. I quickly
became the best technician in programming and
got bigger and more complex assignments. I got a
lot of pats on the back for my work and eventually
I was hooked. I took my first computer course in my
last semester and aced it. So I went on to grad school
and majored in computer science and ended up
with 30 credits with a 3.1 average. My G.I. bill ran
out so I found a job in programming and realized that
I was far more qualified than the average worker
in the field. I rose quickly and had a successful career.
I'm retire now and happy with what I did.

I didn't. It was once said that you should not worry too much about what you will be in life some of the most interesting 40 year old still don't. Me I'm pushing that number and well I hope that I'm interesting. Personaly I am quite happy being confussed about my career path. I stay at home with my two kid and get to see them grow up my wife has a college degree and better earning potential so I don't feel so bad.

I went to my guidance counselor while in highschool and ignored most of what she had to say. Also took various aptitude and interest tests. They said among other things that I should become an accountant. I thought you've got to be kidding - a beancounter. BORRINGGG!! Ten years later I happened to land a job as a senior accountant and discovered I liked it. It was analytical, creative and challenging and nothing like the pure number-crunching that most people think of (computers do that stuff nowadays). The point is that you should seek out the advice of others - your school guidance counselor, people that work in fields of interest, etc. You should also know thyself and know your prospects. Not just what you want out of life or what interests you but what you also have an aptitude for. You'll spend close to a third of your life working. It might as well be something you also enjoy.

i jsut chose a career that suits my lifestyle..and something i love to do...and of course that pays big

It's always ok to chose a career path that you know you're good at. so that it wont be that difficult to adapt to your new environment. And sometimes, you choose a career that's different from the course you take in college.

Just make sure that whatever career path you take, you should love what you're doing. because it will be your motivation to move forward and step up!.
and yeah..dont be afraid to make mistakes, it's natural! you have your whole life to chose
