An AMD-K6 may be able to run WinXp, depends on the mhz which you did not list. Anything less than about 800 will be too slow. 48M ram is totally insufficient, you need at least 256 even though it will run (poorly) with 128. 3.75gb drive is way too small unless you don't want anything else on the system. Minimum would be 10gb, 20gb much better but I would aim for a minimum of 40gb. Buying a new system would be cheaper.

No. Your system doesn't have anywhere near enough resources to run XP.
And yes, compared to Win98/ME, XP is a MUCH larger software package -- about 45 million lines of code.
If you're thinking about a new computer tho, you might consider waiting until after the first of the year. The first release candidate of Windows Vista, the successor to XP, is now available and the 'complete' version (is any OS ever complete?) should be out in January.
At a bare minimum, a Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least:
A modern processor (at least 800MHz).
512 MB of system memory.
A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable
A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:
1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
1 GB of system memory.
Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)2, Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.
40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
DVD-ROM Drive.
Audio output capability.
Internet access capability.

Hello there, i think that you should upgrade or buy a new computer. Win XP must require at least 128MB of RAM to run and that's the minimal requirement as I had one running on my old DELL Latitude but i suggest that you get a mid or high end computer or upgrade your current specs so that your new XP will work at an optimum condition and speed. Also it is possible to upgrade from ME to XP. it's up to you actually, if you are going to use your computer for your work usage such as assignments, then i should suggest u to just upgrade your computer and get the proper installation disk. if you plan to use it for gaming then i suggest you to get a new one(either mid or high end). Hope that my advise will help. :D
Cheers

U could do that by changing some parts of your computer and installing the XP. U could ask and computer engineer or computers shop in ur region, and he will do that. And u don't have to install the XP from the Internet u could buy a a cheap copied version and that what all we do in our country!!!!!

Upgrade from ME to XP, yes.
On a PC with only 48Mb of Ram, no. Windows XP requires a minimum of 128Mb of Ram to install. So you will not be able to run it on only 48mb of Ram.
