There is NO escape

You are doomed to wander the pages of Yahoo Answers from now until the end of time (or at least until bedtime) reading endless questions about "am I pregnant", "does evolution exist", "there's this guy I like..."

When finally you lapse into slumber further questions and their equally trite answers will haunt your dreams until you awaken and log back in.

Thus you have been cursed, along with all others who venture this way...

I agree with you - this website CAN be addictive. I visit Answers because I find it interesting and relaxing. But, very early on, discovered that I very much need to set boundaries on how often I visit here and for how long. Before I did that however, I just didn't visit this site for 3-4 days - kind of a cold turkey type of thing.

When I started visiting on a regular basis again, I now try to limit myself to a set time - and not go over that time. Only you know how much time is within the range you would find comfortable. Because I'm home recovering from surgery, I usually visit Answers for about 2 hours a day. Once I get back to work, I'll be lucky if I can spend 15 minutes a day here.

If you find that you are foregoing other things you need to get done, whatever that is, or, as you pointed out "not focusing on anything else", I think you need to remind yourself of how you lived your life BEFORE Answers, and seek to get that back again. Remind yourself that Answers is just a website - nothing more. There's a whole life out there for you, which is where your focus needs to be.

Think of it this way - if something happened to you or a loved one tomorrow - an accident, serious illness, etc - Yahoo Answers would be the last thing on your mind.

There are so many difficult things we all deal with in life from time to time - don't allow something like Answers to be one of them. Do whatever you need to do to get this problem under control.

With that thought - my day is starting - I have things to do and I'm outta here! Good luck to you!

There are several ways to really think about it. What are we escaping from? That is a good one. Or, why is this activity healing for us right now? That's a different way to look at it. We are all spending time reaching out for a reason. Some of us live out our fantasies or our hidden sexual selves. Others are only looking for companionship. There are scores of stories here, personal stories of everyday people. You are just one of those stories, but you are unique. Only you are in charge. Only you can really understand why you want to call this addictive, and by definition, beyond your power to control. It bothers you, but it tempts you. It makes you uncomfortable, but that's not necessarily bad. At least, it has got you thinking about yourself. Self-reflection is always good for the soul, as long as it is done intelligently, constructively and truthfully. Don't be too anxious yet. You are doing this on purpose. You are still very much in control. Don't make this into something you can't understand. You know what you are doing and you are at peace with making the choices you do. That's called maturity, and you can exercise it doing this or reading books. Its all in how honest you are with yourself.

There is no going back for you my dear, you have given your life over to Yahoo Answers, there is no freedom for you now and no cure has been found for this addiction, you must reach level seven before we can release you back to the outside world.

Hmm- I'd try to find another thing to do. Look outside, and see what other things you can get into, look at clubs or other places where you can socialize and such, get out a bit!

Some options.

- turn left at the next exit.
- close your eyes and leap.
- click your heals and say 'there's no place like reality'
- turn your computer off before this answer reaches you and leave it off for 1 week.
