what makes the celebs so special that they are in the news saying i have cancer. "big deal" "who cares" it makes me sick that they will still make money out of that. its wrong and its personal they shouldnt be doing it. Your personal life shouldnt be used in the media. what are your thoughts on it?

I absolutely agree. I am constantly saying, "I couldn't give a damn" It's even worse when they are used to emotionally blackmail us into giving money to one of their favourite charities.

The best way to stop these and any other "celeb" stories from coming out is for people to stop buying papers, magazines and reading/watching media that run such stories.

How dissatisfied does a person have to be with themselves to actually take an interest in the trivia of other peoples lives that they don't personally know.

No, because it brings home the message that cancer is indiscriminate. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, and surely it is a good thing to talk about it so openly, and raise more money for the cancer charities.
I really take my hat off to Brooke Shields as well for admitting she had post-natal depression, and stating on national television she told her husband that she was broken, and needed fixing. For a stunningly beautiful and successful women to admit that, took huge courage and must have been a huge source of comfort to many women.

the general public is already "all eyes" on the celebs. Most of these public figures, announcing, and going public with their illnesses, are doing it out of true goodness. They realize people "look up" to them and want their fans to have a way to relate to them, realize they are just human like the people who adore them. Also being a celebrity gives these people the unique opportunity to put these illnesses at the forefront of new and media, in hopes to better peoples knowledge of and desire in pushing for research, they hold and host benefits and bring "big name" attention to health concerns that deserve more money, instead of researching how to improve breast augmentation and nose jobs.

it makes me angry that celebs seem to get special treatment when there ill what about average jo who gives normal people special treatment afterall celebs r always saying there just like me n u but theys stab u as look at u if it ment theyd get treated better
not being harsh but some of them see it as good press keeping them in the papers n all that but i do believe they have the right to keep it quiet and the journalists that print the sories are nasty peices of work if they only do it to get themselves money and dont consider the persons feelings

If just ONE of these celebrities motivates just ONE person to go and get a test done before it's too late, and that results in saving a person terrible suffering, I am for it.

On a slightly different topic (but related), look at the tremendous help and hope Christopher Reeve gave to many others by his courage to speak about his own problems. Consider Michael J Fox and how he has helped so many people.

I am against celebrities being hounded but where they choose to freely speak out on such important matters I think we should respect them. Honestly, most of them certainly are not doing it for money. They often do it to raise money to help others less well-off than themselves.

But thanks for offering you point of view.

Lenky.

Well dear, I understand your concern on this issue, but just to remind you ordinary folks don't decide what is going to be shown on TV and News.

It's People who command power that decide this. Celeb gossips are good for advertising companies. In a similar vein, when Angelina Jolie had a baby with Brad Pitt, what made that baby so special compared to yours or mine?

Always keep in mind this cold logic: Power runs this world; sadly, but true

aren't you sick of wasting your time? moaning doesn't get you anywhere..we can't decide what is published etc, by celebs doing this, they are increasing awareness, it encourages everyone to take more care etc, and it also raises money for charities, how do you know they don't use the profits from the story towards "Marie Curie Cancer Research" for example? by doing this they save lives..

I believe celeb's are just human beings like all of us. By telling us they have cancer and telling us how they are getting treatments is just helping others.

They have a right as much as anyone else to tell the media about their diease. Cancer is not something to be exploiuted.
