I personally think the bidding process keeps everybody honest. Just once a year go out for bids on service contracts and do the same for large-ticket items throughout the year. That way, you can be confident that you're getting a fair market price.

All of that being said, if it's a privately held company, they can run their business however they like.

What implications?

These do not strike me as strategic decisions. No matter how well you buy your copiers, or how poorly, the impact on the bottom line is negligible. My guess is that the boss has more important things to worry about. He has found a reliable supplier, and is comfortable leaving well enough alone.

They do not have a problem! You do.
Maybe they know the owners of the other company for a long time, Maybe they give them good service!! Maybe one of the owners is family?
