Bracken has many uses for the hill farmers. It can be ground up as a diet supplement during the winter for cattle - it is rich in coliumbier. It is also useful as warm bedding in barns for the cattle. It absorbs the heat of the body and retains it for long periods of time. It can also be used as a thatch for barns. In a degree of thickness ir becomes waterproof.

So, it is cost effective to all farmers.

Hope this helps you

Bracken is inedible to grazing animals, but can spread rapidly, so bracken is cut back to increase grazing potential. In the New Forest, the Forestry Commission regularly burns large swathes of the grassland (which, despite the name makes up just over 50% of the New Forest), as the grass and heather is relatively tolerant of fire when bracken isn't.
