Can you have more than one modem going at a time through a cable internet line or must you use a router when using more than one computer?

We have 3 computers (2 laptops) at once on our airport....sometimes, cable sux tho',...it's raining, and I have to be upstairs.

depends on how your gatway hub is setup the setup I am using requires useing a networking muti-port hub to hook more than one computer to the internet from my wall information in/out port.
