I had my 6 year old daughters ears pierced 7 weeks ago. Can I take them out for her to play a soccer game or do you have to wait 8 weeks. Claire's said I should wait 8 but for just two hours can I take them out now? Will they really start growing closed?? Thanks. Or should we just skip a couple soccer games until after 8 weeks passes???

It's sad that they made the "No Jewerly Rule" for the kids and their sporting events. Normally, after you pierce ears, you shouldn't take them out before 6 weeks. So she should be ok to take them out for a 2hour game. As long as they do not hurt when you start to take them out, she should be fine. Just make sure you really clean them before putting them back in. There was an 11 year old girl at a volleyball game that I recently went to that had to take her new earrings out. She took them out for about an hour and a 1/2 and was fine putting them back in afterwards.

The first couple of months after they heal they will still close up pretty easily. 8 weeks is when you can change them, provided she's well healed, but too soon to leave the holes empty for any length of time. I'd look for "safety" backs. They make them for babies and they're a lot less likely to hurt her should someone smack into her ear. Then maybe put bandaids on them so they are nearly impossible for someone to pull out.

Explain to the coach the situation and that she isn't going to play without earrings this season, but that you've taken appropriate safety precautions.

I know it is popular, but it's a bad idea to pierce young kids. I had a friend's child's ear ripped apart, requiring surgery, just because she was jumping on mom's bed, fell off, and snagged it on something. It's a pretty big risk and also a big responsibility for the child to have to keep track of her jewelry. Anyhow..just another parent's opinion. I'd consider letting them close given how much of a hassle and risk they will be for several years to come.

It took a long time for my ears to heal completely after piercings, so we waited to change my daughters for 8 weeks. Waiting a couple more weeks won't hurt anything. Also, you should make sure she has some earrings in constantly for a while (the lady at the piercing place said 3 to 6 months) but we made sure to do that for a whole year.

I would wait to take out the earings and if the soccer coach doesn't like it put a bandaid over the earrings that way they don't close and your coach really can't say anything. I always waited 6 months before taking my childrens earrings out for an extened period of time.

When I was 7 years old my ears were piercied during the thread marriage festival. I kept my ear studs for 3 months and then removed them but alas after 1 year my ears have closed. Of course I have given a long gap of 9 months and maybe they have closed. But all the same for girls ear hole necessary and hence let the studs stay it will not come in the way of your soccer game. If at all you want to remove for the soccer game then do it for the game period only and replace the studs immediately after that otherwise the ear holes will close

I had my daughter' s ears pierced 7 weeks ago and they began to heal up after the earrings had been out after 4 hours for PE. Had hellish job getting them back in. Wouldn't recommend!

My mom made me get my ears pierced when I was 7 and I keep them in for 6 weeks. But beware, some kids ears are very sensitive to some types of metals in cheap earrings and will cause the ear to swell, inflame, and cause pain. So remember 6 weeks and no earrings under 3.00. The type that are hypo-allergenic are fine.

deffinatly leave them in! i had mine in for 9 weeks and after that i took them out for a basketball game which lasted what like 3 hours at the most, they were completeley healed up when i went to put it back in. if shes not allowed to wear earrings for soccer ask the coach or someone if its ok if you use like doctor tape to put over the earrings just for the game. it will keep them in and clean and safe during the game.

She shouldn't have to take her earrings out to play soccer...just leave the little studs in all the time, just make sure to keep them clean.

Don't take them out until they are fully healed..... usually 6 to 8 weeks. Risk of infection and injury to the area is too great.
