how to get a sony clie palm pilot to work?

I need to know how to install and where to find free reading software to my desk top to link my palm pilot to my pc.

You can download the Palm Desktop software from the Sony Web site:

Since it is just a Palm machine, I think Sony did not modify and break the OS so the unmodified Palm Desktop should be enough. Download from Palm's site.
