Hendrix, Morrison and Joplin all died at the age 0f 27. Jimi Hendrix choked on his vomit after taking sleeping pills and drinking some booze. Jimi Morrison had a heart attack in his bathtub as the result of a OD and Janis Joplin died because of an OD, I think on Herion, she loved Southern Comfort.

I lived in Long Beach, Calif., in the 70s.... we used to have these outdoor bands, that would come and play at this "Famous" Recreation Park...in Long Beach..... And everyone, and his baby, kids, and dogs, were all over this park, sitting in circles.. while all the dogs & babies, kids ran "Wild"!!!! Everyone who wasn't sitting in a circle was playing "Frisbee, or catch" and in the circles, if you felt you didn't fit in one "Particular" circle, you went and sat in another one, while the band played, everyone got "High" in their little circles, or drank... The cops would brease through from time to time... Never doing anything about it, in fact the only time they would stop, was if some "Fool" was up and walking around the street area, with a bottle of booze or beer in hand, too drunk to even know a cop was there.. And even then, the cops would just ask if anyone knew him, to take him home.. When the neighbors behind the park started complaining about the bands playing ... about a year or two later, they started coming down on all of us!! I remember, one time the cops came and told the band to shut-down, well they waited for the cops to leave, and started up again... That's when a caravan of cop cars, pulled into rec park.... they lined-up, with their helmets on, and billy-clubs, in hand and started walking towards all of us... Alot of our friends got whacked by the cops.... And alot of us just simply "Split".. and nothing happened to those of us who left... The bands became less & less, because the cops started getting too many complaints, (I guess) and the people started coming less & less.... But, in those days, there was always someone who knew someone, who was having a party, that usually led to a "Block-Party" and or if it was like in a "Hidden-Away" area, it was a "Low-key" party, with only about 50 people or so.... Everyone knew everyone's phone numbers in those days.. You could "Hitch-Hike" without worrying about being killed.. You could walk down the street and end up seeing someone you knew.. Or go to the store, and see someone you knew... Everyone was nice, in those days!! Everyone, got along with everybody... I mean every once in awhile, someone would get in fights over, some girl, but otherwise, everyone was "Mellow!!" I remember at my 9th grade school dance... It was the Bicentennial year 1976, and I had this really tall guy in my class that I had a "Crush" on, who never gave me, the time of day, he was so shy... I asked him to dance with me, during the contest part, he replied I dont know how to dance... I told him "Its easy I'll show you, come on!!" So we danced, and we also "Won" the contest!!! That was the high-light of the 70s for me, that and getting A-s & B-s, for the first time in my life of school !!! I've since then gone back home, and its not the same!!! Everyone I used to know's either moved, died, or bought houses, and left no return address... The only thing that hasn't changed, is Good old Recreation Park!!! Its still just as "Beautiful, now as it was then!!"

The chaotic events of the 60's, including war and social change, seemed destined to continue in the 70's. Major trends included a growing disillusionment of government, advances in civil rights, increased influence of the women's movement, a heightened concern for the environment, and increased space exploration. Many of the "radical" ideas of the 60's gained wider acceptance in the new decade, and were mainstreamed into American life and culture. Amid war, social realignment and presidential impeachment proceedings, American culture flourished. Indeed, the events of the times were reflected in and became the inspiration for much of the music, literature, entertainment, and even fashion of the decade.
FACTS about this decade.
Population: 204,879,000
Unemployed in 1970: 4,088,000
National Debt: $382 billion
Average salary: $7,564
Food prices: milk, 33 cents a qt.; bread, 24 cents a loaf; round steak, $1.30 a pound
Life Expectancy: Male, 67.1; Female, 74.8
