double-glazing, thick curtains, good carpet with underlay.

get together with your neighbours and persuade your local authorities to get the road laid with smooth low-noise tarmac. Or at least get any holes and drain covers fixed.

The vibrations come to you two ways: through the air and through the ground. A double pane of glass on your windows and insulation in your walls will help deaden the sound coming in that way; it's the low-frequency soud which you feel as vibrations.

As for the vibration coming in from the ground, this is more difficult since the house would have to be mounted on some sort of sound and vibration deadening shock absorbers.

The only thing that will reduce the vibrations is to move or move the road. Petition your county commission to lower the speed limit in your area. Use drapes to muffle the noise and just turn up your tv or radio.

If possible, create a natural barrier by planting bushes that will grow into a thick, high hedge, it will cut down the noise, I'm not certain about the vibrations.

There are some special windows that you can mount. Those windows absorb noise up to 50dB.
