Sad Songs (Say so Much) - Elton John

Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain
And ironing out the rough spots
Is the hardest part when memories remain
And it's times like these when we all need to hear the radio
`Cause from the lips of some old singer
We can share the troubles we already know

Turn them on, turn them on
Turn on those sad songs
When all hope is gone
Why don't you tune in and turn them on

They reach into your room
Just feel their gentle touch
When all hope is gone
Sad songs say so much

If someone else is suffering enough to write it down
When every single word makes sense
Then it's easier to have those songs around
The kick inside is in the line that finally gets to you
and it feels so good to hurt so bad
And suffer just enough to sing the blues

Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say so much

I listen to them when I am feeling sad because sometime you feel so much, u wanna cry, but you don't know how to actually speak out on the issue, so here's what I do: I go in my room, put on my Mariah Carey's greatest hits album, and find a song that fits my mood. I sing along to it and before long I am as good as new! I know it's weird, but sometimes it helps feeling like you aren't the only person in the world who feels that way.

Because some people like to indulge in their emotions. Listening to sad music enhances the feeling of sadness and allows you to externalise it. This is quite theraputic and will eventually help you to abolish the sadness altogether.

If you listen to happy music when you're sad inside, all you are doing is repressing it and the sadness will linger.

It helps them understand why they are sad, as they are listening to someone else who is singing about why they are sad.

Some people dont listen to sad songs - but listen to something loud!!!
(my really funny friend does that - she says it stops her feeling depressed)

I usually listen to Radiohead when I'm feeling down. Just listening to the lyrics and sometime singing along cheers me up, which is odd considering most consider Radiohead to be depressing

They should be listening to the "Happy Song"

Here are the lyrics:

i could sing unending songs
of how You saved my soul
and I could dance a thousand miles
because of Your great love.

my heart is bursting Lord
because of al You've done
You came into my life
and wiped away my past

I'm gonna shout it out
from every rooftop sing
because I know that God
is for me not against me

i could sing unending songs
of how You saved my soul
and I could dance a thousand miles
because of Your great love.

repeat chorus and verse several times

bridge:
and everyone is sing now
because everyones so HAPPY
a everybodies dancing now
'cause we're so free
if only we could see your face
and see you smiling over us
and unseen angels celebrate!
cuz joy is in this place

It's all about psychology; when people are feeling down, they want to listen to something that matches their mood, it helps people to feel less alone. Likewise it works if you're in a happy mood, you'll want to listen to upbeat music.

Because as weird as it sounds, sometimes the lyrics help. Especially if you can relate to them you know you're not the only one who has felt that way before. It wouldn't make sense to listen to 'It's Raining Men' when you're feeling down, right? hehe
