Their name is recognized. Most of the time it has taken years to get that name recognition, so they keep their “stage” name.

I guess they are too proud to do it. It is like changing their personalities and adapting to the new way of life only to comply with their husbands. This is too much for a star, so I think that they don't change their names primarily to show how great they are and not to disappoint their fans. Plus, if they had to change it every time they got married, everybody would get tired and nobody would remember them at last. This also puts an end to the secret weddings, which are so popular for the celebrity women.

Actually, I believe they all do on paper but not on the big screen. For example, Jessica Simpson took Nick's last name, but not professionally. She was Simpson-Lachey. Think about it: if Angelina marries Brad and takes his name, would she want to be known professionally as Angelina Pitt? It doesn't even sound good. Plus, everyone recognizes her as Jolie. There are those who do take their husbands name professionally. And they usually hyphen it. Like Jada Pinkett-Smith (Will Smith's wife). And some drop their maiden name professionally and take the husbands. Like Felicia Rashad (Ahmad Rashad, sports commentator) from The Cosby Show. I think they basically sit around saying aloud their first name with the different last names. Then when one sounds good....Bingo! that's the one they take. The one that rolls right off the tongue and looks good in print. And let's not forget in neon lights!

The public know them by there celebrity names (in most cases previously changed), If they where to change there names the public would not know who they are and they could loose years of publicity.
Women don,t have to change there names at marriage this is an old word practise.

The reason why most women dont' change their names when they marry is because they have made a "name" for themselves with the one they have and they may not be as recognizable if they change there name.

Unlike most of us, celebrities actually make money on how recognizable their names are. They often spend a bit of money having a stage name chosen for them so it IS easily remembered and recognized.

Its a little suicidal (in terms of business) to change a name you've worked hard to make famous.

Because everyone already knows them by their original name. Like say for instance....Jessica Simpson, and Nick Lachey. She didn't change her name because everyone knows her as Jessica Simpson. Some celebrities change parts of their names when they get married. Pamela Anderson, when married to Tommy Lee, changed her name to Pamela Lee Anderson.

I think that its because they don't expect to be married all that long. If they keep their last name, they won't have to change it after the divorce.

Some do. Pamela Anderson was Lee, Susan Sarandon was the wife of Chris Sarandon. There are lots more. I just don't really care. but I think because WHY? Their name is their trademark.
