Most of these answers are pure speculation.

Here is some actual scientific research:

Dr Peter Frost (university of St. Andrews) believes that sexual selection (Darwins other theory of evolution) pushed hair colour towards lighter end of the spectrum during the ice age in northern Europe.
The lack of resources meant that men had to travel long distances in hunting parties to get food. These journeys were very dangerous and as a result many men died, thus decreasing the male population.
As a result of this, competition for men increased in Women, causing Women to rapidly develop characteristics that attracted men.

"The increase in competition for males led to rapid change as women struggled to evolve the most alluring qualities. Frost believes his theory is supported by studies which show blonde hair is an indicator for high oestrogen levels in women."

The men were attracted to women with more oestrogen (ie. more fertile) and lighter hair was able to signal this to the men.

While this evidence suggests that men with Northern European ancestry (viking, norman, Scandinavian, Baltic) may have an in built preference for lighter hair, it doesn't mean all men will and it crutially doesn't suggest that this is a strong preference or that it outweighs other factors (personality, waist/hip ratio, facial symmetry etc..)

So, do gentlemen prefer blondes?
Maybe.
And why?
Its all in the genes!

There actualy is a scientific answer. It is believed that many men find blondes instantly more attractive than others because having naturally blonde hair is a sign of fertility in both men and women, so the attraction is instinctive and subconsious rather than a matter of personal preference.

This claim has not any scientific basis. I don't think that it is a result of any research. Then any scientific reason can not be given.
Besieds, I dont think that race or appearance has a major role in a relationship.

Lighter coloured hair is very flattering of facial features & more forgiving of large facial features. Therefore a brunette who changes colour to blond will appear more attractive. Subconsiously when we look at a blond person we imagine that their hair is sun bleached (rather than salon bleached) & this creates a mental image of a robust outdoor person who we assume is healthier. We are more attracted to people that look healthy & especially men who (despite their protestations) are always subconsiously looking for a mother for their children.

Because Blondes always have all the fun ; ) Just kidding. They don't prefer one over the other. Men (most men) like women in general no matter what their hair color.

What makes you think we do???

A true Gentleman should never divulge his preferences EVER. It may be gleaned from observation of one individual - but that doesn't necessarily imply that all Gentlemen have the same preferences.

That was actually the name of a Marylin Monroe movie. Tastes differ from person to person. Personally I don't prefer blonds..... but then again I never said I was a gentleman.

I prefer the adage that "Blonds tease, Brunettes please."

I actually don't. And there is no 'scientific' reason, unless you are looking for a sociological answer. My answer would be that this is because society has pushed a particular ideal of women onto the men in our society.
