To keep your skills at their best: Concentrate on practicing fundamentals like dribbling exercises, shooting drills, free throws, and keep up your shape by running. Spend your evenings doing homework then going out and shooting baskets.

Coaches in high school look to make sure that you can work with the team, that you will be dedicated to improving, and that you have a certain level of minimum talent. Above all, they like hustle! So don't lollygag in conditioning or tryouts!

A good shot always helps the cause. But defense is what most coaches are looking for. Practice your defensive skills and play hard, and I guarantee you will make the squad.

Any skill that you have that relates to basketball is a plus. If you've never played the game before, then effort and intensity are your greatest assets while you are learning the game.
