Great job Mom!
Not only are you teaching your child about personal hygiene and style, you are also teaching him about self respect.
I know that the urban style of baggy clothing, and oversized stuff is "in" right now, but I think that it just looks sloppy and unkempt.
I think that some parents may be dressing their kids with no other choice, like hand-me-downs that the kid hasn't grown into yet, donations from others, or just what is cheapest in the stores. They just can't afford the stylish and best fits for their children.
But I also think that the bulk of kids I see dressed like that are by choice. The parents want their kids to be "in", so they dress them however they dress, and what they think is stylish. I've seen gothic parents dressing their kids like little goths, and I think that those parents need to wake up. Adult and teen styles aren't meant for little kids (elementary school).
You are doing the right thing by dressing him in a more traditional style. He will find his own style as he gets older, but with parents who care as much as you two do, he'll still take care of himself and try to look his best no matter what he wears. He will have it instilled in him from you two.
Again, great job, and keep up the good work!

Either the parents can't afford to dress their kids a little better or they don't care. I would think it's the latter of those two because you can even find really nice looking clothing at the thrift store nowadays. I was shocked to see how many kids showed up to school in worn down jeans and old t-shirts ON PICTURE DAY! Don't worry about it, just keep dressing your son the way you want him to look, it shows that you care and others do admire that!

Some kids have a bigger say in the style they were. I always dress mine, in style. Sometimes one of them will want a sweat suit or oversized sloppy look, I will let them have one of these. And maybe the parents are not as with it as you. Keep up the good work, others will notice.

Ok, let's not bash the other kids parents. I too am a mom whose 3 year old looks like a walking GAP ad, so I totally agree with what you are doing. However, I know lots of parents who buy clothes too big on purpose, so they will last through more than one season. Fit is more important to me than that, so I buy appropriate sizes. These children could also have older siblings, therefore wearing hand-me-downs. My last theory is that their parents send them to school in their absolute worst clothes. Here's hoping the are wearing Ralph Lauren on the weekends!!!

keep doing what youre doing because your little boy represents his you and your hubby by how you dress him. When he looks handsome it shows how much you care about him. Plus, why should he look like the other kids when he doesn't have to? If you have the money to dress him nice, do so! Its refreshing to see a cute kid. Those other kid's parents just don't care. Its tacky and distastful, and it only draws negitive attention. The parents are porbably dressed like slobs too. Good for you dressing your son to be a handsome little tyke!

Nothing wrong with sweatpants if they fit properly. What I can't stand are the kids that wear the really baggy jeans that hang down to their knees. These kids that are not as well dressed as your son may come from a family that doesn't have enough money to buy them anything better.

I think your doing great. I would not change his style just because a few boys at his bus stop dress like slobs. You want him to grow up with a sense of what is appropriate to wear and he will take pride in his appearance.
Don't worry about it , just enjoy that handsome little guy!!!

they are icky but it isn't their fault...those poor babies. My son is two and I do his hair already...you know with it just spiky in the front and he looks just like a little man with his lil polo collar all popped up in the back...lol...anyways I know what you mean. I had to move into some apartments after Katrina took my house last year..and there is allot of kids here that just look dirty all the time, their pants falling off their butt, and hair down to their nose. Their dumb parents do that to them...you know not bathe them and let them wear what looks like the same clothes for days...it is sad.

Keep the Gap ad going you care about your son's appearance that is important and he will grow up to have a sense of style.
As for the other children their parents probably just don't care they probably dress the same way.

The other kids you see are icky. I love when parents dress their kids stylishly. It is a reflection on you and your family whereever you go. The teachers at school notice the difference too.
