Think about it. He's a terrible father, he's a stupid alcoholic who beats his child. He also happens to be inconsiderate and lazy, and treats his wife like a doormat. Why do people like him?

Because he has all the flaws that make him seem human even though he's a cartoon character. Everyone knows someone like Homer either a neighbour or a relative or a work colleague. People can relate to him.

For Christ sake he's a f*ckin cartoon man.
They didnt really go that far outta the lines with his image either. Like Al Bundy, fictional characters created by reality. Everyone is not like Cliff Huxtable, or the Brady's father, etc.

Homer is funny, bottom line.

Ask the people (charities, etc) who voted him Father of the Year two years in a row. Yes he's flawed, but he works, loves his family and tries to do the best by them. Oh, and it's a cartoon, and funny.

Doh... People relate more easily to someone like this where they are not intimidating and so unbeliveable that it glues you to the tube. But hidden among all of his bad traits are some noble ones (Johnny come lately ones).

No idea. I detest him too! Infact I hate the Simpsons very much. I wouldn't mind *QUITE* so much if the programme was aimed at adults but it isn't and I think it sets a REALLY bad example.

I know I'll be in a minority but there you go. I'm with you! :)
